My Students

Children learn about the world through their senses. Children with autism spectrum disorders, however, often have unusual responses to the senses of hearing, sight, touch, smell and/or movement. These responses can interfere with learning and affect behavior.

My students are autistic and range in age from 5 to 10 years old.

They receive special instruction in small classrooms, along with related services throughout the school day, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech.

My students present with delays in strength, coordination, motor planning, etc. Many have difficulty attending for extended periods of time, and demonstrate sensory-seeking behaviors.

My Project

We presently have a swing frame in our therapy room, but we lack the appropriate accessories to complete our swing system.

We are in need of a replacement rope and ascender set, a 10'x10' floor mat large enough to cover the area below the swing, and 4 swing frame leg pads.

These items are expensive but necessary to ensure a safe environment for our students to adequately use the sensory swing system.

By safely addressing our students' sensory needs, we can help facilitate learning throughout the school day in other environments. Please help us create a safe space for them!
