My Students

My classroom is a very vibrant and joyful setting. The students are all very unique in their very own special ways. At the end of the school year my students want to become authors that are able to send messages through writing. "Kid, You'll Move Mountains!" - Dr. Seuss

My class is a reflection of the school.

We are a "Leader in Me" school, which means that we foster leadership qualities in all of our students. As teachers we work to empower our students and prepare them for the real world by instilling the qualities and behaviors that are needed to succeed. My students are very quirky, alert, and always interested in learning more. They like to be challenged and rewarded for their efforts and achievements.

My Project

First graders are becoming the greatest authors that they are destined to be. The students have many stories that they want to share. As they learn to transfer their stories from their mind to paper, I want to ensure that they have all the materials needed. The folders that were requested will help the students in two ways. The first way is by helping the children keep their writing pieces organized. The second way is by helping them to remember the writing process. In addition to the folders, the students are learning how to write fluently. However, very often students need constant reminders to use finger spaces. I believe the word spacer will serve as a good tool to help children remember that spaces are needed between each word. Lastly, I have requested the primary journal notebooks. I use it as a reflection tool for the students. The students have the opportunity to flip back through the book and look at how they have grown as writers and illustrators over the school year.

First graders are visual learners.

I know that the folder will help them to retain and move through the writing steps with less confusion. The finger spacer will help students that have great difficulty with using appropriate spacing in between words. The journal is a reflection tool for each student. The students are always amazed of how much they have grown as authors from the beginning to end of the year. Furthermore, giving them the confidence needed to become great authors!
