My Students

Imagine being able to tell people that you are a published author! That feeling of accomplishment is what I want my students to experience as they publish books of their own writing to share with their classmates, students and teachers in other classes, their parents, and classroom visitors.

My 3rd-6th grade intellectually gifted students come from a variety of ethnic,cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.

They are energetic, eager to learn, and enjoy using their imaginations. My class is part of a pull-out program designed to meet the needs of high-ability learners. Students come to my class twice each week for approximately 2 1/2 hours. We are working on developing our writing skills, especially in the area of vocabulary development and using figurative language.

My Project

With access to a book binding machine and supplies, students will be able to publish their work and share it with others. Students will learn new vocabulary and language skills as they take a piece of writing through the entire writing process by pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.

Being able to create books will help my students see a real-world purpose in learning creative writing skills.

Their own knowledge will be enhanced, and by sharing their work they will also enhance the knowledge of others. Imagine how motivated they will be to continue this process of learning and sharing!
