My Students

Each morning, my students come to school bursting with curiosity and excitement about what we will learn today.

I teach in an urban, Title I classified school where almost all of my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch.

This year my class of nineteen bright and eager first graders is all so excited about learning how to read! Because many of them are beginning readers they love listening to others read to them. At the listening station, they can read along with a book on their level with the CD or they can listen to a book they enjoy above their reading level.

My Project

I already have a listening station in my classroom but now I need books on CD to go along with it. I'm requesting books on CD including Classic Read Aloud Books, I Can Read, Funny Read-Along, and Miss Nelson is Mission. I also need a Small Book Rack and Book Bags for organization of the materials and storage.

Being able to listen to a book on CD while following along visually can enhance word recognition and help expand vocabulary.

Students can listen to books on their own reading ability level to increase fluency and also listen to books above their reading ability level to help strengthen comprehension skills.

My students LOVE learning to read and listening to books on CD is another great way to get them excited about literature! I can't to further engross my students in the world of books.
