Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm an early childhood health and physical education teacher. My students are mostly English language learners who are new to the country. Most are South American and Asian.

Most of the kindergarten students have never been in a formal school setting and many of the first and second grade students have been in our school since kindergarten.

Our school was closed in mid-March due to COVID and I'm sure the students who will be returning are as anxious as the teachers.

We just want to make them as comfortable as possible and ensure their safety.

My Project

Schools in New York City will be reopening this week, with the students returning a few weeks after.

As a physical education teacher, I am the only one allowed to bring the students out into the yard for their mandated phys ed lessons.

As masks are now mandatory, there's a need for my students to hear me. Masked voices do not carry outdoors. Having a portable, battery powered speaker system, will not only save my vocal chords, it will allow me to properly motivate my students and make their learning experience more effective.
