Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a great class with ten energetic and vibrant students and three wonderful paraprofessional aides. All of my students have various IEP goals, behaviors, and speech delays.
My students are in Pre-K/K and are diagnosed with autism.
I currently have ten students, a number which will gradually increase at any moment. None of my students are able to effectively communicate basic wants, needs, and emotions. Currently we are using picture icons to support their communication needs.
My students are energetic, bright, and very eager to learn. They range in age from 3-years to 5-years old. Our school is a Title I site. My students come to school to be loved, appreciated, and taught. They have lots to overcome, but they still come to school with smiles on their faces that brighten up my day. These little ones are learning so quickly! In less than one week the newest of my students has mastered using picture icons for their daily schedule and has done so well with following the classroom routine. We work every day on their various IEP goals, social skills, and their speech and language acquisition, strengthening their fine motor skills along with our new curriculum.
My Project
My students currently need some basic and vital materials to further their learning in the classroom.
The act of handwriting combines many different fine motor skills into one big communicative job, Children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, however, often lack fine motor skill development necessary to write without difficulty.
Focusing on building those skills can help boost a child's writing performance.
The magnetic-lined white boards will be used for my students (whom all are on the Autism Spectrum) to practice their fine motor skills necessary for writing tasks.
The Writing C.L.A.W will be used as a tool for my students to write and practice their pincer grasp for writing tasks.
The Lakeshore Writing Journals will be used in the classroom for students to use as a daily task, to copy and/or trace writing tasks. This would be a perfect log of their growing writing skills.
