My Students

I ask my students to find high-quality books to read for pleasure and share their reading experiences with the class. Unfortunately, they don't always have access to great literature. I want to put prize-winning literature at their fingertips!

My students are energetic teenagers!

They are discovering all sorts of new things about the world each day, and much of their view of humanity will be shaped by the books they read during these transitional adolescent years. Less than 20% of resident adults in our area have earned degrees beyond high school. My students have the potential to go to college and find success in the world, but they need great literature to lead them!

My Project

The titles that I have hand-selected for this project are winners of the National Book Award or the Michael Printz award for literature. These books are high quality examples written to appeal to teenagers with subjects that interested them. As the students read and share these books with each other, they will grow in their language skills and see that GREAT literature can be RELEVANT to their own lives. Life-long readers will be born!

Please help me offer my students a choice of books that will interest them and show them how quality literature makes the most of language to convey the human condition.

I believe great literature that is relevant to today's teens will make a positive impact on the future--theirs and ours. Thank you!
