My Students

My students are curious, spontaneous, and they love to learn! We are an urban school located in the outskirts of Las Vegas. We live near the beautiful mountains that surround the Las Vegas Valley.

Every cultural and socioeconomic walk of life is represented at our school.

Our differences are put aside when we come together with a common goal of learning!

We are learning to be super leaders and super readers in third grade. We need books to be reading superheroes!

My Project

The War with Grandpa is a book that will enthrall all of my third graders! The character development of both Peter and his grandpa will be one of our main areas of study. We will begin by making a bulletin board with a U.S. and world map; we will put pictures of our grandparents next to the place in the country/world where they live. A piece of yarn with a pin will lead from our home here in Las Vegas to where our grandparents live. We will then delve into the book and track the characters and how they change throughout the book. Other areas of study include internal and external conflicts of Peter and Grandpa, character action/motivation, inferring character feelings, making text to self connections, vocabulary development, author's purpose, and the lesson/theme of the book. We are really in need of books in our classroom, and this would allow each child to be reading their very own book! Help us reach our reading goal!
