Attendance Is Important For Our Kids!

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from diverse backgrounds, residing in district 7 in the Bronx, one of the most underserved districts in our city. They are bright, charismatic, kind, and energetic children who have the drive and passion to succeed. However, they are often faced with various obstacles like homelessness, malnutrition, mental illness, loss, abuse, and many other situations our children should not go through. Every day they make it to school and our goal is to make it a wonderful experience. Our children are 11-15, many have the wisdom of individuals much older. Our children are gifted, they are talented, and need the resources to excel and enhance their skills. Our children have so many extraordinary ideas and my job is to ensure they come to life!

My Project

We work with a unique population that struggle with various obstacles that get in the way of them coming to school. Many of our kids have several responsibilities that put a strain on them and deter them from wanting to get to school OR cause them to be unable to come. While we work hard to accommodate each child, sometimes It is difficult to reach each of them. We do not have the funding to do fun, exciting things that might appeal to the kids so these incentives would be used for that very reason. We want to reward the scholars who go the extra mile. We want to recognize them for pushing through even though they had a sleepless night, long commute, or nasty cold. We want them to see the importance in attendance! By having incentives we can award scholars whom have 100% attendance and most improved attendance.

Our incentives will let a student know they are recognized and thought of.

They love the small acknowledgements. We can work out incentives with them based on how many days they come. We can give prizes to those who come everyday on time, which is a great skill to have for the future. We already try and target the parents by giving out baskets of food and drinks each month for supporting their children. However, we don’t have the means to always accommodate the kids, so, this would be great!
