Help me give my students chemistry kits to complete hands on chemistry demonstrations, labs and activities. Topics include molarity, physical behavior of matter, understanding the periodic table and so much more!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When you picture a chemistry classroom the first thing that usually comes to mind is crazy experiments and a fun laboratory setup. The addition of these chemistry kits would drastically enhance and change the way our classroom runs and allow more chemistry experiments and demonstrations to be performed not only in front of the students but for students to work independently. Topics like electron configuration, ions and atoms can be challenging to conceptualize. With the "atoms, ions, and isotopes lab activity" and "building of atoms and ions" students get the chance to master these topics they can not physically see and create atoms and ions using the appropriate electron pieces. Chemistry overall can be a challenging topic and the addition of "chem-cubes" and "Periodic Table of Cookies" allows students to have some fun with periodic table, and understand the trends and groups they will need to know.
The excitement in the classroom the first time a student sees a chemical reaction is indescribable and with the addition of "red, white a blue demonstration", my students will be excited to do more on their own.
Real life connections, for example, what an alloy is and how it is formed, lead to more questions and curiosity and the demonstration of "making an alloy a redox reaction". Seeing the change in color but also understanding, on a molecular level, what is happening in the oxidation and reduction half reactions is what makes these kits so important to our classroom.
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of chemistry and make their time in my classroom memorable and meaningful
