Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In the last couple of years, roughly 66% of high school students have dropped out of school in New York City.

Since 2009, from the time that I got the opportunity to coach at APR, 100% of my student-athletes have graduated High School.

My name is Mr. G. I serve as the Boys Varsity Head Coach at APRHS. One of the main hurdles that I have encountered as a head coach yearly, is finding funds for our teams.

The population that I coach is very resilient. They are not your average high school student-athletes. The majority of my student-athletes have extra responsibilities that entail babysitting little siblings, babysitting grandparents, potential after school employment due to family financial hurdles, and most importantly, they still need to meet their academic daily goals. Academia is always top priority in my program!

My Project

My name is Coach G. I teach 9-12th grade physical education and health. I coach Boys Varsity Basketball and Boys JV Baseball as well. My student-athletes spent 2-3 hours in my office watching their own games and breaking down their opponents tendencies as well as their own. I notice that all 14 players corral against my 14 inch monitor and watch the games. One of my student-athletes sarcastically suggested to make my office into a film room.

I thought about this idea and figure it can really become a reality since I already have all the equipment minus the actual television.

I also notice that my players hydrate and lose all their water bottles daily. A refrigerator will eliminate that because they can leave their water bottles and fluids inside the refrigerator.
