Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I service a community of students that are diverse socially, economically and academically. They are highly inquisitive, have a strong commitment to investigating, pursuing and seeing social justice, in its various forms, activated in their personal and public lives.

Students see this pursuit in academic lives through being active in various student led initiatives - a sit in to protest police brutality, poetry, visual arts and music, open mic to bring attention to unheard or underrepresented voices in the school community.

Students are empathetic and look for ways their academic studies are realized in the real world.

My Project

These materials will help students go beyond the glitz of what is seen on social media or other forms of media and investigate the history of activism. Is it necessary for athletes to take stands? Do African American athletes have a responsibility to be socially and politically active to influence change? These are the study questions as students prepare to do their own versions of TED talks (we will call them Prep Talks. Our goal is to raise awareness of our school community to look at sports beyond statistics and highlights.
