This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a lively fourth grade bunch in an Integrated Co-Teaching setting located in the Bronx. This means that my classroom has a unique mix of students with special needs and general education students. Many of our wonderful students have Individual Education Plans to meet their specific needs and to give each student strategies and supports that will help them reach grade level and participate in the 4th grade curriculum despite any challenges they may be facing.

Our class word that we use every day is PERSEVERE; although some days it can be difficult to understand a lesson, we have to keep trying, push through and stay positive!

We call our class a community, a team, and a family. We all work together to support each other and learn not only the academics but how to be loving, caring, powerful, passionate human beings. We instill in each of our students that they can do anything they put their minds to; our school starts every morning by reciting "With these hands, with this heart, with this mind, I can do ANYTHING!" And I want each of my students to believe it!

My Project

No one could have predicted the things that 2020 has brought us. When schools were sent home due to a pandemic and forced to continue instruction through distance and remote learning, we did everything we could to ensure our students wouldn't fall behind as the now learned from home through an iPad screen.

As we prepare for the next school year, NYC is enforcing a hybrid model of teaching.

This means students will be learning at home majority of the time and coming into the classroom to learn in smaller groups for in person support - therefore students must have the supplies they need at home. Students shouldn't be writing with markers and on scrap papers, students need their own set of supplies to complete lessons at home successfully. An at home learning kit of pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, protractor, all in a hard pencil case is essential.
