This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hello! My students have all recently arrived to the country and are transitioning into their new lives here in the United States. Many have experienced great trauma on their journeys. Many students have significant gaps in their education as well. They are now faced with the enormous task of learning a new language and making up for lost schooling.

I have created this DonorsChoose project to set up a classroom library where students can borrow books and read for pure pleasure and escapism.

I want my students to bring these graphic novels back to their temporary housing and read these silly comedic books with their siblings and their parents. To reconnect them with reading. To share a smile with their families. To live in the humor of the book.

Please support this project and help put these popular children's graphic novels in the hands of newly arrived asylum seeking students.
