My Students

Help us succeed! Our classroom computer is obsolete. It is heavy and cannot be moved around the room. Testing on this computer is difficult because the mouse doesn't always respond and since the test is a timed test, the students don't get an accurate result.

My kindergarten students are a group of curious, fun loving, inquisitive 5 to 6 year olds who deserve the best chance to succeed in life.

My students attend a school in California and they come from predominantly low income families. Most of my students live in high poverty. All of the students at our school participate in our free breakfast and lunch program. Most students are learning English as a second language. My students are excited to learn, but do not have many educational resources or opportunities outside my classroom. Their parents work long hours to make ends meet, often holding down 2-3 jobs at a time. School is often the only place where my students can experience the use of technology to be able to get ahead in life.

My Project

Having a tablet will give my students the advantage they need to attain more accurate test scores on our district required Dibbles testing. With the tablet, I can find the quietest area in the room to test because the tablet can be moved anywhere. Since it has a touch screen, it is quicker to use and therefore more advantageous as more items can be tested in a shorter amount of time. When I am not testing or monitoring, the students can benefit from using the tablet to practice reading or math skills. We can also access the Internet to reinforce the topic we are currently studying in our reading series.

My students need a tablet to have the best advantage possible during their mandated testing experience.

I believe that the use of technology is very important. I want to provide my students the opportunity to experience and learn with the use of technology in the classroom. A tablet will provide opportunities that they would otherwise not have.
