My Students

Do you remember the excitement you felt when you saw that magical new technology device for the first time? You could hardly wait to get your hands on one! Now, imagine combining that device (the Apple iPad Mini) with the world of elementary music education and voila, today's musical geniuses are born!

My K-4 elementary students (of many races and ethnicities) come from mainly a low income Mid-Western community.

Despite the everyday challenges they encounter, their smiles and endless energy are the first things that I notice in the morning when they walk through the door. My students LOVE to come to music because they know they can experiment, perform, play, inspire, explore, create, and soak in ALL experiences and life-changing moments that occur in the elementary music classroom. Playing instruments, dancing, singing, and exploring new music technology devices (when available) are among the many favorite activities that we experiment with in the music classroom regularly. Our community of teachers and administrators share the enthusiasm of excellence in learning in our building which includes supporting the arts in education as well as encouraging students to go for their dreams! I consider it a great pleasure to be able to nurture and guide my students every day!

My Project

With the purchase of an Apple iPad Mini for my music classroom, students would have more opportunities to experiment, create, and explore with their musical gifts and talents. Having an iPad Mini in my elementary music classroom allows for more individual/group activities and exploration of all kinds, including the ability to project from the iPad Mini screen onto an interactive Smart Board. Currently, ALL regular elementary classrooms in my school have at least one iPad for the students and teacher to use on a daily basis. The only technology that my music classroom currently has is an interactive SmartBoard. There is a wealth of musical knowledge in the form of apps that I am eager to share with my students but cannot since I have no daily access to this type of device at this time.

Without the proper opportunities, resources, technology devices, and appropriate music education experiences, the cultivation of my students' musical gifts and talents can be dampened before they are even given the chance to grow. Being able to purchase an Apple iPad Mini for my classroom would be a fantastic beginning in bridging this musical gap for my students.
