Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Help bring art back to the classroom! This school year I will be teaching in a Kindergarten inclusion class. An inclusion class consists of 12 special education students, 15 general education students and 2 teachers; a general education teacher and a special education teacher.

Once again I am faced with the challenge of teaching students without having the proper supplies. For many of the students in my class, this is their first experience with school. Most of them are unable to write their name, letters, numbers and shapes. They also have difficulty tracing and cutting. A child's first school experience is crucial. This experience will set them up for their entire schooling.

The children will not have the opportunity to go to Art as a special once a week. The Art program was cut. As teachers, we are required to produce eye catching bulletin boards every month to display student work. We are also required to decorate our classroom, display student work on classroom bulletin boards and make projects to go along with the curriculum or for various holidays. In order to do the things I have mentioned above, I need the materials. My classroom does not have any construction paper for the children to draw on, practice fine motor skills and create memorable projects for their parents.

Your help will make it possible for my students to improve their fine motor skills as well as their artistic abilities. They will also be able to create beautiful keepsakes for their parents.
