Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In celebration of our unit on Asian American and Pacific Islander Culture, I would like to provide my students with autism an opportunity to engage with culturally significant games from the Asian and Pacific Islander regions to enhance their social skills. These activities, such as Tumbang Preso (Knock the Can) from the Philippines, Mugunghwa (Red Light, Green Light) from Korea, Kith Kith (Hopscotch) from India, Taulafogo(Shuffleboard/Curling) from Samoa, and Paengi Chigi (Spinning Tops) from China, are not only fun and engaging, but they also serve as a means of cultural exploration and learning.

Through these games, students will develop social, motor, and cognitive skills while simultaneously being exposed to diverse cultural traditions, fostering a sense of global awareness and appreciation for others.

The games selected, including Red Light, Green Light, and Hopscotch are adaptable and provide opportunities for the children to develop cooperation, communication, and coordination skills in a supportive and inclusive environment. They also provide tactile, visual, and sensory engagement, as well as promote active participation and turn-taking. These games will provide an enriching and joyful experience, celebrating cultural diversity while supporting the developmental social and communication needs of my students.
