My Students

Urban students often are overlooked and mine are no exception! I want to put the tools in their hands they need to be successful at their jobs, becoming responsible citizens who understand what they need to do to ensure tomorrow has a chance to succeed. 

I am often the first introduction to science that they have ever had and while this can be a challenge, it is also exciting to see them discover things for the first time and take ownership in doing science rather than reading it from a very outdated textbook. 

They often don't believe that I want to give them opportunities outside the classroom and are truly amazed when they realize there is a huge world out there just waiting to be explored.

My Project

Our printer died last week. It literally will not even turn on. We have done everything within our power and now are searching for another one. Printers, ink and paper are a vital necessity in today's classroom and ours is no exception.

In an urban, inner city, even the most basic of supplies can be a challenge to obtain and these children really need to be able to have what they need to succeed!

If I am short even one copy of something I have to print out at home and hope that I have enough, it can take most of the hour to find someone who has a working printer. The child who gets to go in search for that is the one who loses out on the lesson for that hour. We share printers and I have had the only working one for two grade levels and on our floor. Having a printer will help in so very many ways, even being able to provide homework for everyone! I feel so totally lost without one at school that I am often very frustrated by the time I make it home. Please help us alleviate this rather simple request!
