Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students, I will be working with, are first-grade students who live in the West Bronx/Tremont area in the Bronx. This neighborhood is an urban neighborhood that is diverse in its demographics. Most of the students are from low-income households.

The children are part of the Horizon program, which is tailored to serve children on the autism spectrum.

Our goal is to create an environment for the students in which they feel safe and respected. Establishing routines is a very important part of the Horizon curriculum. Visuals are very important when communicating expectations, teaching new strategies, and learning social skills.

My Project

Help my students have adequate school supplies during this difficult time! Things are still very uncertain with in-person and remote learning. These supplies are made to be individualized but equally divided so that all students have the same supplies. All of the items chosen can be wiped down and sanitized.They can be used in school or at home. There are items that can help store their personal supplies and help keep their areas clean. Some students who are just starting in-person learning may need more time to learn social distancing guidelines, rules regarding masks and adequate hand washing protocols, so having these items will help. We plan on working together and we plan on working safely.
