My Project

All of my students come to class with a wide variety of academic and behavioral needs. In order to promote learning and to create a safe and comfortable environment the following sensory tools would be extremely beneficial.

The weighted stuffed animals will help my students to reducing feelings of anxiety while promoting a feeling of calmness when feeling distressed.

This tool will also help my students to practice self advocacy by verbalizing their needs and selecting an appropriate calming strategy. Similarly the sensory mats will also give my students another strategy in harnessing feelings while remaining inside the classroom. Both of these tools will be utilized as part of my classrooms calming corner.

The kick bands will be used to help students who feel restless remain in their seats and increase focus during crucial academic blocks of learning. The addition of this tool will allow by students to have an increased learning threshold.

Lastly my students struggle with loud environments which cause them to demonstrate anxious or unexpected behaviors. The use of noise cancelling headphones will allow them to interact with typically performing peers in spaces that offer less structure like the cafeteria, gym and playground! Allowing my students to be integrated with their peers is essential to their social development and learning.
