This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is a 2nd grade dual language (English-Mandarin) class of about 23 students in District 1 in Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City. Most of my students come from low-income families, and my school is a Title I school. Many of them receive free lunches based on their socioeconomic status.

Despite the many challenges they face (such as little food at home), my students are always so smiley, so kind, thoughtful, and so generous.

They will save their snacks and surprise me by leaving snacks such as an apple, a banana, or a pack of cranberries on my desk! Their words, "You need brain food!" made my heart melt! They are intelligent, fun loving, creative, and very spontaneous.

I am looking to provide my students with hands-on, fun, and meaningful learning experiences. I need your help to make that possible.

My Project

Kids benefit from reading series books as interest is a huge motivator for reading! We will be doing a reading unit on series book reading. However, currently my class library does not have enough books for this next reading unit of study. Students cannot read when they do not have enough books to circulate in our class library.

However, with your generous donation, this project will allow my class of 23 students to get different series fiction books for them to be doing their series book reading.

Enrich my novel bunch of students' lives by assisting them in getting these series books! As their pages turn, allow them to be engrossed in books and develop a passion for reading! Many thanks!
