My Students

We are a large elementary school in Northern California. We have a very diverse population in our school. I have students whose families come from all over the world. In my class alone, we speak six different languages. What wonderful diversity! Being a transitional kindergarten class we do a lot of hands-on exploration and have a lot of firsts - first time to write our names, first time to count, first time to use scissors, first time to have any type of schooling.

My Project

Art projects are almost a daily activity in my Transitional Kindergarten classroom, especially during literacy centers. Students use paint, cut, draw, glue, glitter, sequence, and all sorts of supplies to learn their letters and sounds in an artsy way. Currently, student work has to dry, taking up valuable counter space, and sometimes even the floor. What becomes a problem is the fact that student artwork gets stepped on when on the floor, or spilled on when near the water fountain, or other working space. When something goes awry, students become very sad when their masterpieces are damaged. Sometimes they even need to start over. By having drying racks for their art, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus solely on being proud of their work and learning!

By donating to our project, you will not only help student work to be remain safe and preserved, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

Students will be able to simply focus solely on the their artwork, and not whether their project could potentially be ruined. Plus in this world of emphasis on core subjects, any interaction with art will increase their creativity as well as their desire to learn and express themselves!
