My students need basic art supplies and engaging materials to inspire creativity and discovery in learning. My students need paper, glue, paints, clay, and markers to continue artistic expression.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students have great potential. They just need a teacher who believes in them and a community that supports them. My students are a product of their environment. Many of my students never leave their town or experience the things that help in making meaningful connections in learning. My goal is to give them these life- enriching experiences inside of my classroom. I have broken up fist fights, scrubbed curse words off the walls and desks, and seen great poverty almost daily in my school. I have also seen a student's face light up with pride after seeing their artwork on display. There is no greater reward than building a relationship with a child that furthers them not only in the art room; but in life.
My Project
The students in my school will benefit from these materials as they create and explore their own talents. From painting, to clay sculpture and sand art, the students will experiment learning through art and other interdisciplinary subjects. Grades Pre-K through 4th grade with have the opportunity to experience learning in a new way inside the art studio. We will create pattern mandalas with sand art, connecting the students to their own environment, as the beach is very close to the school. The paints will be used for the students to add color to the walls of our school. We recently painted the school store, and now the students would like to paint murals around the hallway doors and book nook. The students will create and collaborate with one another in efforts to build socio-emotional skills and discover individual talents.
These artistic experiences have the power to capture a student's imagination and engage them in the exciting world of learning!
