Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
In this unit, students will dive deeper into economic education by studying logos, color psychology, symbols, and branding utilizing surveys and consumer feedback. Students will be challenged in this fashion merchandising unit to design their own logo for a brand that represents who they are. They will then produce a wearable product showcasing their brand. Each student will be learning about choosing a product to upcycle. This unit will propel students into current marketing trends as they also conduct consumer surveys. We have pre-owned jeans, jean jackets, skirts, purses, shoes, etc. Their job will be to research a modern-day fashion trend (such as custom-designed jeans or shoes) and personalize their product utilizing STEM concepts and art.
Once students become the expert in their chosen design field, they will continue to upcycle more pre-owned clothing to give it a new life and sell it in our classroom store.
Students will utilize a business plan, compare vs value, and track the sales of their individual branded items. Students will use the rhinestones to bedazzle their product. The glitter, modge podge, glue, and spray adhesives will be utilized on denim and leather shoes. The paints are specific to our leather products (shoes, belts, purses, etc.) The tissue paper and napkins can upcycle canvas shoes. The vinyl, canvas, rain jackets, and paint will be used on the clothing and canvas to create store products utilizing "spin art" with the requested drill in the pop-up tent. The pop-up tent will also give us a safe place to paint, spin the art in a circle (as the paint will fly) while also allowing our fashion products to dry without ruining our classroom carpet! The heat gun will set the paints and glitter into the objects so that they are able to be washed.
