My Project

This art room sees almost 200 students throughout the year! We work together to share these supplies to make beautiful works of art. These supplies have been chosen specifically to supplement the supplies we have. Popular colors run out quickly and others need to be replaced from time to time. I try to only request what we are running low on. The main theme of this request is based around our clay unit.

Working with clay is a unique and wonderful opportunity that is vastly different from drawing with a pencil on paper.

Students will begin by spending some time observing what other artists have created in the past. Then we will experiment with various building techniques such as slab, coil, and pinch. The clay is then re-wedged to be used for the final piece. This is one of the great things about clay, it can be reworked until it is fired. Students will design their own pieces and bring them to life with the clay. The glaze is applied using paintbrushes and is then food-safe. The glazes will be used for multiple classes and underglazes can be mixed to create new combinations. Some students choose to paint rather than use glaze, so those supplies are here as well. In my advanced classes, they are also given the option to use cardboard for their sculpture and so there are some supplies that are used for that. The remaining items are a few items to help them draw out their designs and plans. Students at my middle school are taught the creative cycle and this includes planning, researching, building, refining, and reflecting. Thank you so much for supporting our young artists and giving them this wonderful chance to make something that they have designed and created from start to finish.
