My Students

My art students are studying Cezanne, van Gogh, and Chagall. These kiddos need art supplies to create their own works of art after learning about these artists. We are running desperately low on art supply staples like paint and paper.

My students come primarily from low income households.

The majority do not have access to arts experiences outside of school. It is up to me to provide these experiences for them; however, it is expensive to purchase art supplies for almost 600 students. I need help getting the supplies to provide these experiences for my students. I want them to experience painting with different kinds of paint. They love art and they tell me this very often. I know these supplies will make a difference to them.

My Project

First, students will learn about Paul Cezanne and his many still life paintings. They will learn to paint apples and create their own still life using the tempera paint. Next, they will study Chagall and learn about surrealism. They will design their own surrealist work that uses symbols to express a theme. They will use the pearlescent watercolor paint to add to the surrealistic feel of their work. Finally, they will learn about van Gogh and create their own landscape of irises. We have irises planted at our school. They will be able to look to those for inspiration. They will use the crayons and the paint as mixed media to create these works.

I will not be able to teach these lessons without the success of this project.

I simply do not have these supplies in my classroom and cannot afford to buy them with my own personal funds. (I wish that I could, but it is just not possible.) These supplies provide the students with a hands-on arts experience. Instead of just learning about they artists, they can actually create their own works.
