Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are learning about pointillism and impressionist art. They have discovered a love for these two art movements. They want to create images using these artistic styles.

My students are bright inquisitive budding artists.

Our school has been without a formal art program for many years. This is the first time that this current group of students have art class at school. Our school has a very diverse population. We have students who are English Language Learners, they come from all corners of the globe. Many of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. The students are excited to have an art program. They put so much effort into their art work.

My Project

My students are learning about Georges Seurat. They will be creating paintings in the style of pointillism, which was created by Seurat. The Playcolor Paint Sticks will enable them to paint in this particular style. The paint sticks will give them the opportunity to observe the scientific part of the art process that Seurat created, through the blending and placement of pigment. They will how art is connected to science and mathematics.

This project will help my students develop their artistic confidence.

It will give them the chance to express themselves and feel success. It will give me the opportunity to teach my students how art can be folded into all the major subject areas. My students will increase their speaking and listening skills as they learn to discuss their art. They will learn how to give positive feedback about the art that they are critiquing.
