Help Mrs. Taylor

Starved minds need art in their classrooms regardless of their socio-economic status. They might be poor, but they are not lacking in imagination.

Teaching gifted students in grades 2-6 in a poor school district means there is no money for art supplies. Students always seem to radiate with excitement when they find out that our lesson for the day includes art. Unfortunately, we have limited art supplies.

I need paint, clay, brushes, and art paper. With these supplies, my highly motivated students can enjoy learning about other cultures from parts of the world that they may never see. They would first use their art supplies to create their own cave paintings. We would progress through history and finally arrive back at modern day art. The 6th graders would use paint to create their own interpretation of Picasso's African art. They could learn about geometric shapes by recreating their interpretation of Cubism. With clay they could create their own sculptures from different periods of history. My classrooom would be a regular art museum. By the end of the art unit, students would complile all their art pieces into a portfolio to take home.

Help me introduce the world to a group of students that deserve the best life can offer. They might live an impoverished life, but at least their minds will be filled with all the possibilities that their creative brains can imagine.
