I am a sixth grade art teacher at the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation. I teach 150 at risk students who come from low income homes. This is the first year that our school has been open and art has been the last on the list for funding.

I have started an exciting project that has caught on and caused excitement throughout the school. Artists Trading Cards are small cards created by the students that they are able to trade with each other. They create these cards anytime the complete a project early. They are ungraded and students make them for the sheer joy of creating and trading art. This concept started in the '70's with a Swedish artist who created 2 1/2X 3 1/2 inch cards with individual artworks on each. He refused to sell his mini artwork but offered to trade with anyone who created their own mini art. No money is ever allowed to exchange hands, just trades. This became a world wide phenomenon and has now begun at the Wildlife School. Teachers, students, parents and administrators have created and traded these cards. My problem is, art is the last to getting funding and I do not have anymore funds to by these supplies to keep up this project.

To create the Artist Trading Cards we need various scrapbooking papers, tag board, and stick glue. The paper I ordered has beautiful designs and students create fantastic cards using the papers to collage with. The cards are need to be created on a thicker paper so they stand up with time and can be traded over and over. I have been working with drawing paper and the cards just don't hold up as well. We need glue to glue the papers together. With these supplies my students can continue to create trading cards and even see if we can spread this idea to other school and have swap meets.

If you have ever seen an entire school become excited about somethings they learned in class that they continue to do it on their free time, then you would understand why I must get these supplies to continue doing artist trading cards. I want my students to continue being excited about art making and with your donation it can come true.
