Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. I have second-language learners, native English speakers, autistic students, struggling readers, avid readers, ADD and ADHD students, and students from low-class families. Many of the students added throughout the school year have been displaced from their homes in Puerto Rico because of Hurricane Maria.

At my school, the motto is "Live, Dream, Achieve".

My students know that wherever they come from has little bearing on where they're going. As long as they work hard, they can have whatever life they want. This applies especially to the students who are new to the country.

It is up to them and the choices they make to help them succeed. We have high academic and behavior expectations and they rise to meet the challenges set before them.

My Project

Knowing middle school science is a whole different experience and many students get turned off by science becoming just like every other subject. This is a challenge that many teachers face. I know that many students are interested in science and even more enjoy art. This year I'm requesting the art materials in this project so my students can create interactive notebooks. In an interactive notebook: one page is teacher given information, the other is where the students can show their own understanding of the information by drawing pictures, creating webs or simply write about it. The poster board included in this project will also let the students display their knowledge on posters to decorate the hallway. My students love working in groups and creating posters together.

These markers, crayons, and colored pencils will allow my students to get more creative while studying science.

By getting more involved in the science curriculum they will be more likely to ignite their motivation for science and the path of life long learning.
