My Students

Yet again, the teachers are told, "There's no money in the budget for art supplies." I can't tell that to six and seven year old children!

My class for 2011-12 will consist of 27-30 first graders.

Many of the students are English Language Learners (ELLs). The school is in an inner-city neighborhood and 100% of the students receive free lunch. First graders come to school full of wonder and anxiety. All year long while we are working, the students can draw and paint about what they're learning.

My Project

It isn't enough to just read about science. It isn't enough just to count numbers. It isn't enough to just write about the book you read. When students illustrate their work, it helps them remember what they've learned. And, equally important, it lets them share what they've learned with their classmates! I am requesting some simple art supplies: Paper to draw and paint on, some colors of paint that we're out of and some drawing chalk.

Please help my students be able to make art to enhance their learning - and fun - while in school.

They are little children and deserve to have a wonderful time during the school day and art is loved by all.
