Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

City of Angels Independent Study students are getting "Ready For The World" when participating on a Field Trip, learning how to interact with new people, exploring unknown destinations, and recording and reflecting upon their experience with their new friends. Students find topics and subjects for their original artwork, collaborate with their peers, and learn about cultural and historical topics in art and society on our trips. Yet, we are challenged with motivating the students to participate because they are more comfortable at home. Some students battle social anxiety, physical and mental illnesses, or just need to balance school and employment.

We plan to offer students a Snack Kit for our 9-hour day field trip requirement.

Our school does not have a cafeteria, so ordering school lunches becomes a hurdle for us. Students are instructed to bring a bagged lunch on trips.

Our classrooms are located on the campuses of other schools, and students must travel to pick-up sites for trips. It is easier to bring a lunch than to locate a school cafeteria near each pick up site and coordinate lunches to be picked up and delivered to us before busses leave for the trips. The planned snack kits will greatly benefit students on long trip days which end at 5:30 pm

In addition, we hope to offer School Shwag Bags (another project) to motivate students to participate in field trips. We are charged with building school culture without a physical campus. Promoting our mascot, The Wolf, our True Blue school colors and building a school motto are important steps to building school culture. Help us to support student identity while enriching their academic experience.
