Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students are smart, brave and resilient. They come to school everyday through war torn neighborhoods. Many of them take care of younger siblings at home and carry a burden too heavy for any child to have to manage. Many times during the day they alternate activities to help them throughout the day. Living between two worlds it's hard many times for these students to cope or even self sooth during stressful situations. Art therapy is an excellent way for students to take their minds off of now and take a break. Students are able to express their frustrations, feelings and thoughts artistically. Drawing, painting and working with their hands helps them focus and gain control. These resources will help many of our students get though the day.
