This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our art supplies don't "measure up" to my students needs. Help us by supplying with tools to create our designs.
I teach middle school drama / speech grades 6 - 8.
Our title I school district is in a high-risk community where most students are minority and low-income. Though our students struggle at times to succeed, they are passionate, imaginative kids who deserve the chance to experience a creative learning environment.
My Project
I teach 8th grade theater students public speaking, problem-solving, artistic, and teamwork skills by mounting 10-minute plays at the end of a 9 week class. This project allows students to create designs for their plays. This project allows students of all ability levels and learning types to play a role in the creative process. Special needs students of all types (gifted, slower learners, etc.) contribute in a way that works best for them.
I am writing a series of grants to gather the necessary materials to make this class a springboard for student achievement and innovation.
We need to assemble a collection of art supplies for the students to create set, light, makeup, props and costume designs. We have some art supplies, but we are very low on rules and other measuring devices.
With a new set of rulers, yard sticks, triangles, and t-squares, our theater students will be able to draw neat and proportionate.
Your donation will give our students the supplies that they need.
