My Students

I teach a group of 24 vibrant Transition Kindergarten students in an urban neighborhood. All students at our school receive a free or reduced price breakfast and lunch. Most are learning English as their second language. For most, my classroom is their first school experience. They arrive at school every day eager to learn and grow.

They are our schools youngest learners and need a balanced curriculum with both play and academics in order to reach their potential.

They are always excited to try new things.

My Project

Art is a critical component of the Early Childhood Curriculum. Students need to be able to express themselves creatively. Unfortunately, art supplies are often consumable, and do not last forever. They get worn out, and used up. My students are currently limited in paint colors, using stubby old crayons, and worn out paint brushes. My students need art supplies to enhance their creativity. We would love new paints, brushes, aprons, and clay to create many different projects. New, crisp art supplies will inspire their creativity. I will be able to enhance the curriculum in reading, math, writing, science and social studies by allowing my students to create art to prove their learning. Students will have fun, and increase their knowledge at the same time.
