Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Coloring with old, broken crayons is the extent of our creative expression in our classroom. My scholars need the opportunity to paint and use colored pencils to enhance their creative expression.
I have 25 students in my public school, first grade classroom.
They love things they can get their hands on..... technology, books and especially things to draw with. We have limited crayons, no colored pencils or watercolors. Although these items seem basic, our school's budget has cut all supplemental materials including supplies needed for creative expression. For my inner-city scholars, it is important to express themselves through art. We need basic art materials to help us implement art into our everyday routine.
My Project
Basics supplies of crayons, watercolors and colored pencils provide endless possibilities for students to create. As we begin to study art from the seven continents, our new crayons, watercolor paints and color pencils will help students create masterpieces. Students' will also create an art portfolio for a classroom gallery walk at the end of the school year.
I believe art is a way for kids to express themselves.
When creating something, they are making it their own. The sense of accomplishment they receive for creating art is one that can not be matched by anything else. Art can inspire academically challenged students, to be successful in other areas.
