My students are amazing! Our high school II is a transfer high school, meaning that our students are under-credited and overaged. This school is often a unique opportunity for our students to graduate from high school. Our school recruits students who are: involved in the juvenile or criminal justice system; homeless or in transitional housing; involved in the foster care system or child protective services; district residents. There are daycare services for our students who are parents. Students have a great rapport with the teachers, staff, counsellors, social emotional coaches, and administration at our school. We all really, really care. We are a small school, and a close community.
My students in my art classes are open, outspoken, thoughtful, creative, expressive, and they ask really good questions.
They are excited to learn new processes and try new materials. My studio art classes favor ongoing projects and exponential learning, allowing students to experience a constructivist approach, wherein they learn by doing.
I want my students to have so many choices for the materials they use, and the ways they make their art.
My Project
These supplies from Blick Art Materials are for my students at AIM II to use in their art classes to learn stop-motion animation and sculpture. I have picked out paints, materials to build and sculpt with, and tools to make precision modeling and details. There are materials which will be used to create layered and considered sets and scenery for stop-motion animations. There are materials for creating characters which will move and speak and sing and interact in stop-motion animations.
Having a wide variety of materials to choose from, like clay and paint, to build sets, characters, and sculptures will help my students to make more thorough and creative stop-motion animations and sculptures.
I love to teach animation, and I think it can be so important and so empowering for students - it's a really special and engaging medium. Animation combines students telling their own stories, practicing a variety of hand art skills, working with technology, to create a final product that inspires pride and is instantly shareable.
If my students are able to work with all these materials I have picked out for them, they will not feel limited in what they can make. I can't wait to see their new work!
