My Students

We are a public school special needs program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students. Students included in our program receive academic support through Individual Education Plans (IEP). Most of our students qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch.

Our students work so hard on academics they do not always get an opportunity like this one to participate in a mainstream Art Class.

Our program consists of middle school, high school diploma track and students that will complete an occupational credential program.

My Project

Our Deaf Program is located in a public Magnet School that focuses on 9 arts areas that the students audition to be accepted into. This year a few of our students have been invited to mainstream into the Visual Arts Major Art 1 Class. The students that are included in this class qualify for Free Lunch and their families do not have the income to purchase the VERY expensive art quality supplies they need.

Our Deaf Students are mainstreamed in a High School Art Class and need basic art supplies that they can not afford to buy themselves.

The Visual Arts Teacher purchased a basic set of Prisma Color pencils and a sketch book out of his own pocket for each of the students, but they need additional supplies. The students need Canson Artist Series Drawing Book, Blick Studio Artists'' Colored Pencil Set - Tin and Sakura Cray-Pas Junior Artist Oil Pastels for a few of the projects they will have this year. Other supplies such as Staedtler Pencil Grip Two-Hole Pencil Sharpener and the kneaded eraser will help them have what is necessary from the Art supply list.

Typically our students do not have arts classes because they requires a high level of academic support and language instruction just to access grade level concepts. This opportunity will allow them to experience an area of instruction that has not been available to them. Having these supplies provided for them will give them equal access that the other hearing students have.
