My students need supplies such as a cd player, Brita filter, microwave, books, a greenhouse kit, and root farm to further integrate learning using the arts.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Studies have shown parents & educators the importance of Art Education, yet some remain skeptical. I believe that students need the integration of art into ALL subject areas. I have seen firsthand how much it augments learning. I have also seen how the lack of an art program can diminish it as well.
I teach art education from pre-k through the fifth grade in a primarily Hispanic high needs school.
These children are highly motivated to learn. They are filled with enthusiasm and most times with wide eyed wonder at the smallest things that we may take for granted.
There have been enormous cuts in funding for New York Public Schools, unfortunately even more so this year. Some of the areas MOST affected by these cuts are the art and science programs.
In the past I have used every resource I could think of including, borrowing materials from friends, coaxing donators, or buying supplies on my own.
The items I have requested for donation from Donors Choose will support long term projects intertwining science, literature and art - all well loved subjects!
My Project
The main/first project of focus will be involving the life cycle, specifically the make up of plant life. We will be starting the process of life from scratch, documenting the progression from seed to plant. Some of the documentation will include: art projects involving clay & other 'perishable' materials which will be used to depict organic life. The microwave will be used to heat up clay and plasticine for sculpting our plants in their different stages of growth. The filtered water (Brita) will be key to maximizing the fruition of this project as well since there is no access to water in my classroom. Cds, which use 'real life' information and also encompasses fictional stories, will also be utilized for research as well as inspiration. I have requested these CD sets from other donators and have received them! As of now my art class is equipped with very minimal supplies, including lack of a CD player. Your donations will support these student's for many years to come.
At the end of these exciting multi-faceted projects, each student involved will then "publish" a hardcover book that tells the full story of their adventure beginning to end.
A publishing party will finish off these projects with a celebration adding to their already existing passion for learning! With your help, it will be possible to impart to students, parents and educators alike that art can deeply enhance learning. Help me convince the doubtful that art can be the catalyst to inspire!
