This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I'm requesting various picture books showcasing artwork from over 25 artists. Picture books are a powerful educational tool for any age group, especially pre-k to 2nd-grade learners. They provide visuals, increase vocabulary, and make more complex themes accessible to students. Art lessons that use picture books can apply all four main types of learning- visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic.

Representation in the classroom is very important, and students deserve to see people who look like them in the examples they see.

I have chosen books focusing on diverse narratives, impactful artists, and sustainability. My goal for this project is to broaden the range of books in our classroom library.

We will both discuss the book illustrations as artwork and talk about the stories they tell. Some books focus on practicing specific skills, like observation and creative thinking. I hope to show students that anyone can be an artist by providing concrete examples of artwork and artists.
