Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Upon entering the art room the other day, one of my students saw the supplies I had assembled and said, "I'm not sure what we're going to be doing today, but I know it's going to be fun." The best learning happens when students are engaged in something challenging and fun. When students create two and three dimensional artworks from their imaginations, sculpting with clay, painting, drawing and printmaking they experience the kind of challenge that supports their intellectual growth and achievement.

Our Pre-K to 4th grade elementary school is located in an ethnically diverse, low income, inner city neighborhood in the Northeast.

Many of my students are very talented, but families can't afford private art lessons and art-camp in the summer. To be artistically successful, our students need a top notch, public school, art education program.

My Project

I am requesting art supplies and reading materials that will promote continuity of art making and art learning while students are away from school. Each week, students will take home a different art-pack focused on a particular artist, art culture or art movement. The art-pack will include a book or magazine and art supplies for creating art related to the art-pack topic.

My plan is to create an educational art experience for my students that will integrate literacy with art and will involve families in students' arts education.

Students will complete engaging interactive art-pack activities with their parents or siblings or other family members. Art-pack activities will include readings, writing prompts and art-making projects.

Most students do not have any art supplies or art books at home.

Your donation will provide students with the opportunity to learn about art and to create art with their families. Consumable art supplies will be replenished as art-packs are returned to school each week. Students will take a different art-pack home the following week.
