Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a limited amount of technology available in my classroom. I currently show printed visual resources that are too small for my class to fully engage in productive dialogue. My classroom needs technology in order for my students to be in touch with information and ideas...instantly!

My students are creative 6th, 7th and 8th graders that are enthusiastic about learning and creating art through my elective class.

Half of the student population in my school is on free or reduced lunch. Due to budget cuts, I continually search for ways to provide a more desirable art experience to my students by applying for grants to fund field trips, purchase additional art materials and incorporate technology into my classroom. I have created an environment of care and respect in my classroom by modeling that behavior myself. I encourage my students to get to know one another, so they can learn to appreciate their artwork, differences, ideas and solutions by actively participating in class critiques. Teaching is very rewarding, especially when my students have shared that my class is the reason they wake up in the morning to come to school or how my class has been a positive influence in their lives.

My Project

I will use the projector to introduce a lesson with a PowerPoint presentation, access virtual museum exhibits throughout the world and to show other instructional videos. The speakers will be used to listen to videos and to play music for my class, to help improve their productivity. The cart will serve multiple purposes in addition to being a surface for the projector; it will also help move around and store a variety of art materials. My students will work on an art history research project where they will have to use technology to create a video and PowerPoint presentation in order to present it to the class. As my students work on their assignments I like to point out their success by sharing it with the class. With this project, I can take a photo of their artwork on my I phone and plug it to the projector for all to see instantly! I am already planning ahead and for my next grant, I will ask for an I pad, but for now will use my I phone as a teaching tool in my classroom.

Technology is changing everything in our world and with your help; it will benefit my student's learning.

This project will positively impact my students because most are without computers and Internet access outside of school. As a result, I will be able to provide experiences that many of my students would otherwise not have. Technology is more than a tool or a resource; it is an essential element in the process of teaching and learning.
