My Students

As testing time quickly approaches, I am reminding myself that my students need creative outlets to express themselves as well as artistically represent their understanding of the topics we study.

I teach in a Title I school.

I teach in an Integrated Co -Teaching classroom. We have students with incredible interests, talents, and varying struggles. I am the special education teacher for the class, and I work with two general education teachers. We work hard to make learning fun and engaging.

My Project

We are going to be creating projects in social studies and will enjoy Empowering Students Through Art! We want to have them create scenes that represent the different aspects of colonial times. We have done extensive research about natural resources, Native Americans, and geography and now it is time to learn about explorers and what motivates people to explore and colonize other lands? The paper, glue, and paintbrushes will help replenish our depleted classroom supplies, and keep the creativity flowing!

I have always found that when the arts are integrated into the curriculum, children become excited and invested in learning.

It creates a cooperative environment in the classroom, because there are challenges and real life problems that come up in the process of making, displaying and presenting art. Kids become determined to solve the problems, and are willing participants in the process of learning and sharing.
