My Students

The mission of our school is to develop its students to be knowledgeable, productive members of a global society through an education that promotes cultural awareness, skillful use of information, personal renewal, and both individual and community path-finding for the twenty-first century.

My students are inquisitive, engaged scholars from all over the world.

They speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Somali, Albanian, Toishanese, and Amharic. More than half are English Language Learners, many have special needs, and most are from low-income households.

They are curious, thoughtful, funny, and kind. They do their part every day to be present in their learning, and they deserve the opportunity to explore and grow in a nurturing environment that is both challenging and fun.

My Project

As my high school students prepare for an intensive art research project, I am aware of the limitations of our current art library. As we do not have reliable access to technology in the art room, having lots of books on hand for students to refer to increases their chances of success on their research assignment.

It is important that my students learn about artists who reflect their interests, languages, cultures, and identities.

This list of books includes works by Muslim, Latinx, Asian, Black, women, and LGBTQ artists. By adding more voices to our existing library, I hope that my students are able to find artists who truly inspire and motivate them.
