My Students

My students are learning to trust their creative instincts and develop critical thinking skills. Every day, we build more and more successes in art! I teach art to K-8 students in a wonderful, large urban school with limited resources.

As I have been teaching the same students for several years, it has been very exciting to see their growth over time.

I love working with such amazing problem solvers and creative thinkers! My student population is around 715 students who come from a wide variety of backgrounds, culturally and geographically. My students speak 19 different languages!

My Project

As we transition into hybrid learning after a year of virtual learning, I will be focusing upcoming units on social emotional learning and celebrating identity. I want my students to see themselves in our projects and an excellent way to reach my students further and build a deeper understanding of content is through literacy and stories.

This collection of books about home, identity, family, diverse artists and thinkers and the environment will help my students feel more connected to art content and to each other.

At first, these books will be used for read alouds and, over time, they will be added to the collection of books that students will be able to look at on their own after they finish art projects.
