My Students

I teach visual art in a middle school in Greenville, SC, with 46% receiving free and reduced lunch. I teach approximately 160 students every day and when they sign up for art they are eager to create and express themselves. Under normal circumstances students pay what they can for a supply fee so I can order supplies in bulk to save families money, and I can also purchase items like clay and printmaking supplies that families cannot do themselves.

I am on a mission to get a basic art kit into every students' hands for the start of this school year.

Now that schools and communities are facing some of the most challenging economic times due to Covid 19 I know many of my artists will not have basic supplies. When school closed suddenly last spring I had students who lacked things like paper and pencils at home.

My Project

If our school year begins virtually I want to make sure my students will have an art kit so they can complete art assignments, and now more than ever students need art as a creative outlet and a way to express their feelings.

Hopefully, we will be back in the classroom as we begin hybrid learning, but unfortunately students will not be allowed to share any art supplies that normally would be used by everyone throughout the day.

These individual art kits will allow all of my students to create!
