Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What I love about my students is that they face new challenges with ingenuity, insight and a flair for self-expression. They see art making as a way to share their points of view and make an impact on the world around them.

While my students know how to overcome challenges in their daily lives, they need chances to express themselves, share their stories and engage in learning that incorporates art making and creative problem solving across their curriculum.

This past spring, my students created social action posters to spread positive community messages about maintaining health and safety during the pandemic and the importance of racial justice and equality. Several students have lost immediate and extended family members to COVID-19 and over 80% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Throughout the year, my students will create artworks using a variety of materials and media—from online drawing and painting applications to painting and printmaking. They will engage in art and interdisciplinary projects with these materials in response to environmental and social justice movements, the lives of their communities, and their academic study. Creative, hands-on activities help support confidence and individual learning styles during times of disruption and uncertainty.

My Project

I want to provide my students with individual sets of quality art supplies at the beginning of the school year. Having these supplies will ensure they can create and experiment with colorful materials and tools whether they are in-school or at home doing remote learning. These art kits will give all my students equal access to the resources they need regardless of their family's financial situation or ability to source their own supplies during a pandemic and help minimize the need for the sharing of those supplies.

Your donation will support my middle school students to stretch and grow as young artists and provide them with individual, good quality art supply kits to use for a variety of artistic and academic school projects throughout the year.
