My Students

Can you believe it? All of a sudden, the educational powers-that-be realize that kids need to be immersed in art to help them learn!

In September, I will be teaching second grade, a class of approximately 25-30 students.

It is a poorer community and all children qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Few children in my inner-city school are exposed to art outside of school. And, in the 12 years I have been at this school, we have never had an art teacher.

My Project

Fortunately, we are going back to projects-based learning. The children will learn about various topics in 6 week long units and the culminating activity for each unit will be some sort of project. I am requesting class packs of both magic markers and colored pencils that double as water colors. I plan to use my art background to show the kids how to create beautiful works of art that enhance what they've learned.

I know the 7 and 8 year old children I will be teaching will learn more and enjoy the process more with these new art supplies.

Please help me bring their learning to life with art that they can be proud of!
