Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are highly creative individuals who love expressing themselves. They love art class, and are always coming up with new and interesting ways to express how they feel about themselves and the world around them.

Many of my students come from backgrounds where art wasn't offered in school, and many of them won't have opportunities in the future to express themselves in an art class setting.

They deserve a high quality art education, and I believe it's my job to offer them with all the tools they need to express their identities.

My Project

In these times full of uncertainty, one thing is certain. Art is essential. Art is what makes us human, and in challenging times, art becomes a way for us to understand the world around us and express how we feel. What was most heart breaking about teaching from home during the pandemic was the fact that we couldn't give students the art education they deserved when they needed it the most.

Without equal access to materials, there is no equity in the education system.

Unfortunately many of our students were not able to get materials for art at home, and were not able to express their feelings when they needed to the most. This needs to change, and that's why we're asking for your generosity in these difficult times. The materials will go to 9th graders who, at the beginning of their high school career, are just about to embark on a journey of self discovery. We want to give them the ability to draw, paint, and make objects using clay. Whether we start the school year fully remote, or with a blended learning model, one thing is for sure; art will be of the utmost importance to students in these challenging times.
